6. How can Christianity be true when so many people have been persecuted and murdered by the Christian church in the past?


From Matthew Yates: The actions of men are a bad gauge of truth. People, even Christians, will act in their own best interest. It's part of our nature (Romans 3:23 again). The Crusaders were driven by a covetous church leadership that wanted to extend the pull of the Holy Roman Empire over more and more territory. It was, in this case, the church leadership which was in the wrong, for covetousness is itself a sin (Exodus 20:17).
