WHY CHRIST CAME
"Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name." (John 12:27-28)
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS (See also: Why Christ Suffered and Died and Results of His Suffering)
He came because He was sent by His Father. John 7:28-30, John 8:16-17, John 9:1-6, John 12:44-50 (See Christ's Obedience)
He was sent by God to redeem us, that we might receive the adoption as children of God. Gal 4:4-7
He came to give eternal life, which is that people may know God the Father and Jesus Christ. John 17:1-5
He came into the world to save sinners. 1 Tim 1:15-17 Luke 9:52-56, Matt 1:21
Jesus came to be the sacrificial Lamb offered to bear our sins, and He then became our High Priest in Heaven, representing us before our Father. Heb 9:24-28
He was born to be King, although His kingdom was not of this word. (His Kingdom will come after His Second Coming). He came to this world to bear witness to the truth (and to offer eternal life in His Kingdom). John 18:36-38
He came to give lasting and inner peace to those who would follow Him, not an earthly or outward peace to the world that rejects Him. In fact, His call brings division, not unity, to the physical world. Luke 12:50-53 (Remember, He came to provide eternal Heavenly peace to those who would follow Him.)
He came to call sinners to repentance. Matt 9:13, Luke 5:30-32
He came to seek and save the lost. Luke 19:9-10, Matt 18:12
