From Theo:
I just finished reading an article on your site about the T.V. show Sailor Moon. I must say, how surprising and sad it is to find that Christians such as yourselves, can criticize and condemn the show so easily - only merely knowing, scratching the surface of its true meaning and worth. You reprimand the homosexuality in the show, the parts of "nudity" and the "occult" use of magic and are oblivious to the rest of the show. Those few aspects of the show make up about 0.00000001% of the show.

If you pour yourself a large glass of water, then add a teaspoon of arsenic, you would be in serious trouble, Theo.

I too, am a Christian, and believe in God, but even so, I find that there is no "nudity" in the version shown in Canada - the Japanese version may be different.

All the anime shown to children on U.S. television have been "cleaned up" to in order to pass today's sliding standards for  pornographic images and nudity. The same may apply to Canada.

Now, to comment on their "occult" use of magic, and its source - satan. Its source is satan? Please! Give me a break! It's source is not satan.

What is its source, Theo? Where do you thing occult deceptions and suggestions come from? Here are some warnings from God's Word:

"He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan...." Mark 1:13

"The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not strayed from Your precepts." Psalm 119:110

"The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved." 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10

Actually, I didn't write that article. It was written by a young Christian woman who was caught up in the Sailor Moon myth and understands it very well.

The fact that you had audacity to say such a thing is unbelievable. This all goes back to the true meaning behind the show, which you obviously do not know anything about. Their powers come from within their hearts. They are able to save the world time and time again because of their courage and purity and goodness of heart. I am not saying that they are pure, but I am saying that within their hearts lies goodness, from which they draw their strength. That my friends, is where it comes from. Not from satan.

"...such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:13-14

"...the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world..." Revelation 12:9

Now the Negaverse is a different story. They are evil. Not much more to be said about them. I believe those Sailor Scouts portray qualities that humans no longer possess - or that we are loosing quite rapidly. They are loving, and value friendship, love, peace and life in an extraordinary way. They love each other, (and I do not mean in a homosexual way) and would die for each other.

Yet, not only that, they value life- every individual life- and strive to keep every aspect of Earth beautiful, peaceful and healthy. Another thing, they fight for love and peace. How many of us do this in this modern day age? No, I think not. We are to busy with our own, self-centered lives to care about anything else. We are to busy criticizing others, and trying to be the best that we have created a pecking order amongst ourselves- or haven't you noticed?

This show sends such a good message to young children. It shows them that they must treasure and value the truly important things of and in life. Additionally, at the end of each show, there is a little slot where Sailor moon and the Scouts send a message - if you would listen to these messages; they are truly good and wonderful. So as to your article about Sailor moon, you should understand your topic before you censure, because frankly, you lack the courage to your conviction.

You may say that you believe in God and that you are good Christians, but the only way to tell is by your actions. Trashing someone else’s dream- their life’s- work does not show kindly on you.  There is much more to being a good Christian than going to church every Sunday and keep up appearances. God knows who the hypocrites are.  I am not saying that you yourselves are  hypocrites, since I do not know you personally, but I do feel strongly about Sailor Moon, and also believe in the goodness of messages this show conveys.

From Monique Desir:  I would like to tell you some things about Sailor Moon. I am ashamed to say that I used to watch it a lot a few years ago before I realized how warped and disgusting it was.

First of all, the Japanese and English versions are kind of different. (WELL THAT MIGHT BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT!) In the Japanese version there is a lot of homosexuality going on as well as bisexuality that parents might not understand....

There is a lot of occult or alchemic talk in the show: quest for crystals, moon prisms, which are worn as brooches for extra power. But where are they drawing this power from? ....

From mIsH: Excuse me, there is no mention of tarot cards in sailor moon. not at all. the closest thing to that is sailor mars being shinto priestess. shinto is a common japanese religion.

Page 28 in the book on the left side shows a picture of a Tarot Card with wolves staring up at the moon. It states, "The 'Moon' tarot card means 'Anxiety.' Once in a millennium... a cursed solar eclipse."

Anonymous:  In your Halloween section, you had a picture of "Luna" the black cat from Sailor Moon... You mentioned (or at least I was under the impression) that Japan has linked the Western icon and beliefs of the black within this series. Also mentioned was the fact that the cat has a crescent moon on her forehead, the "symbol of goddess and spirituality."

I would like very much to point out that there is another talking cat in the series. This cat, Artemis, is a white cat with a crescent moon on his forehead. This cat was created before Luna was, and he was featured in the series "Codename Wa Sailor V" (Codename: Sailor V).

If one were to look deeper into the Sailor Moon and Sailor V series, then they would find that it is based almost entirely on Greek and Roman mythology.

Try "Project: A-Ko" if you want an animated series that features American pop icons.

From Cyanne Coldsteel, an anime fan: "Rumiko Takahashi is NOT the creator of Sailor Moon, she created Ranma 1/2 and Maison Ikkou.  Naoko Takeuchi is the creator of Sailor Moon.  I do not see the connection between Rumiko Takahashi and Sailor Moon."
